Abstract

High risk systems (HRSs) are organizations that operate at the edge of instability and contain the potential to effect disaster. They are enterprises that are intrinsically susceptible to error and harbor the possibility of variance propagating swiftly through their networks with catastrophic consequences. Examples of the type include spaceflight missions, patient care, transportation, energy, banking systems, aircraft manufacturers, human intelligence operations, and war. HRSs have demonstrated consistent success mitigating their intrinsic potential to effect disaster by enacting the cognitive architecture affiliated with high reliability organizations (HROs). The challenge they and organizations generally face, however, is the uniform appropriation of the HRO model. The core cognitive operations that distinguish HROs and help safeguard them from system failure often contravene everyday understanding and thinking. This course trains an extended iteration of the HRO model that helps organizations overcome this challenge. It achieves this goal by:

meaningfully teaching and coaching its core cognitive operations;
reducing the processes to a single human phenomenon: thinking as such, or thinking endured directly as thinking, and;

Teams are the hard problem of the organizational and psychological sciences. Inefficiency, rigidity, and system failure are commonly correlated to shortfalls in team processes. This course trains a team cohesion and performance model derived from an iteration of the High Reliability Organization (HRO) cognitive architecture developed in response to NASA team requirements for prolonged spaceflight. It is designed for teams operating in complex and constrained environments, including situations where errors and anomalies, even relatively minor ones, can swiftly propagate through organizational networks with disastrous consequences.

This course strengthens the ability of organizations to defend themselves against elicitation attacks and exhibits the relation of elicitation to other business functions, including sales and negotiations.
